Nova Africae Geographica Et Hydrographica Tabula
G. Blaeu - 1669
Item BL03 - 170 x 120 cms - Price R14,260
This map is the African Continent taken from the Blaeu's Four Continents set.
These large mural maps, which have been the subject of much study, are without a
doubt one of the most spectacular examples of cartographic representation of
their era.
Four of these re-creations, corresponding to the four continents,
have become part of the cartographic collection of the Italian government thereby
recognising their importance and contribution to the cartographic art.

Blaeu family.
Each of the four Blaeu Continents has a panel at each side showing the people of the
lands.
The sea scenes are spectacularly adorned with boats and sea-monsters.
The animals of the region are also shown - although, as you can see, the precise anatomical
details of the animals were not that well known in 1669.
